Zero Delta is a top down action shooter fighting waves of hostile mechs of varying types while trying to survive as long as possible.

Built as a inspired by games like SOLDAT and HIGHFLEET. This project was a delight to design and build.

Originally a 4 player PVP game I slowly moved to a 3 player co-op experience due to technical limitations that I was not ready to implement.

Tuning the movement and weapons was one of the most satisfying parts of building Delta Zero. And I wanted to make sure the camera felt good and responsive but allowed for a more dynamic way to show the world based on weapon ranges.

The weapons in Delta Zero are all based on the core weapon lists from HALO. Designing weapons has always been extremely interesting to me and I enjoy how much variety you can have within this system.

The camera in Delta Zero is based on the designs from SOLDAT. But modernized and made more for a co-op shooter experience.

When the player moves the mouse to the edge of the screen it will move the camera focus in that direction. The focal point will stay between the mouse and the controlled unit. But the distance will be limited by the type of weapon the player has currently equipped. 

Shorter range weapons will give only a small amount of extra visibility but longer range weapons will. With special weapons allowed to use an aim down sights feature to go even farther. Only Assault Rifle and Sniper Rifle are allowed to do this. The trade off is that you character will be off screen and you can no longer tell if hostile units are near you. This creates and interesting dilemma for players using these weapons.

Spread and camera shake are also added to create a more visceral feeling when shooting the weapons.
